Central Air Conditioners

Package, Air and Water-Cooled Air Conditioners: Gas or oil single package air conditioners with factory-made assemblies of one or more evaporator fans, evaporator coils, and condensing sections having means for air cooling, cleaning, dehumidification, heating with factory or field installed electric strip heaters, and forced air circulation through a duct system, which may also humidify and control temperature.
- Includes only units that are assembled or designed to be assembled in a single unit (within a single factory-made enclosure)
- Includes single package (cooling only) roof top units, indoor package — air and water-cooled units, and Package Year-Round Air Conditioners (with gas/oil heat)
Split System Central Air Conditioners: Air conditioning condensing units.
- Includes only those units intended for air conditioning purposes and will be installed remotely from the evaporator and require field connection of refrigerant lines
- Includes ducted and ductless products

Central Air Conditioners and Air Source Heat Pumps include Variable Speed Systems with three or more steps of compression:

Variable Speed Mini-Split Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps: Have a single outdoor section and one indoor section. The indoor section cycles on and off in unison, in response to a single indoor thermostat.
Variable Speed Multiple-Split Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps: Have two or more indoor sections. The indoor sections operate independently and can be used to condition multiple zones in response to multiple indoor thermostats.
Variable Speed Multi-Head Mini Split Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps: Have a single outdoor section and two or more indoor sections. The indoor sections cycle on and off in unison, in response to a single indoor thermostat.

Package, Air-Cooled Heat Pumps: Single package heat pumps with the provision for electric, hot water, steam or gas heat (dual fuel), factory made assemblies of one or more evaporator fans, evaporator coils, and condensing units which may allow for air cooling, heating, cleaning, dehumidification, and forced air circulation through a duct system and also humidify and control temperature, with provisions for modifying the performance so that either heating or cooling and dehumidification may be produced.

- Includes both indoor and outdoor units
- Include single package (air cooled heat pumps) roof top units
Split, Air-Cooled Heat Pumps: Split system heat pump units intended for heat pump purposes to be installed remotely from the indoor coil, air handler, or fan coil and require the field connection of refrigerant lines.
